AD // in collaboration with Bunnahabhain
My thoughts and opinions are of course, as always, my own.
I’m delighted to have the opportunity to try the newest annual release of the Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old 2025 Cask Strength Edition!
This whisky has been matured predominantly in second fill ex-oloroso sherry casks, with some first fill and refill casks for balance and is bottled at an ABV of 56.4%. It is also natural colour and non chill-filtered. It will be available for £90 from Bunnahabhain’s website and specialist retailers from 1st September 2025.
If you are not yet familiar with Bunnahabhain, it is a distillery on the isle of Islay, located off the Scottish west coast. While Bunnahabhain do have a small number of peated releases, they predominantly produce unpeated whisky, unlike many other distilleries on Islay. I can highly recommend a visit to the distillery if you are on Islay as it’s beautifully located on the island’s north east coast, right on the water and opposite the island of Jura. It’s also a great distillery to try if you like a sherried character as most of their whiskies are matured in various ex-sherry casks.
This Bunnahabhain really reminds me of a dunnage warehouse with notes of sherried fruits, earthy oak and clove spice. I could imagine this whisky being absolutely lovely with a cheese board and as a dram in front of the fire throughout crisp autumn days or chilly winter adventures.
