PR invite

All thoughts and opinions are, of course, my own.

Two of my absolutely favourite things in life are afternoon teas and champagne – and when these two combine? Even better.

I was absolutely delighted to be invited to The Gleneagles Hotel near Auchterarder to experience a champagne tasting and afternoon tea.

Moët & Chandon Champagne Tasting

We started the afternoon with a champagne tasting with Benoît Gouez who is the Chef de Cave at Moët & Chandon. We tried the Moët & Chandon Brut Imperial En Magnum, Moët & Chandon Grand Vintage 2013 and Moët & Chandon Collection Imperiale Creation No 1. My personal favourite was the Grand Vintage 2013 which had a lot of complexity and notes of toast, pear and also reminded me of a fino sherry in its fresh fruitiness and wine cellar notes. A stunning champagne!

The Gleneagles Afternoon Tea

The Afternoon Tea is served in The Glendevon room at Gleneagles, which is a gorgeous space with muted greens and big windows that let in a lot of natural light. A beautiful setting to spend a couple of hours to enjoy lovely food and drink. We were served tea to start and I’d highly recommend the Genmaicha which has notes of puffed rice. The amuse bouche was a beef tea and the food was then served in two rounds – the first savoury and the second sweet. My favourites of the savoury section was the cured trout on a rye cracker and devilled crab sandwich and on the sweet side the raspberry and lemon French fancy and the marmalade and dark chocolate cake were real standouts. It was a delight to try it all and I definitely had to bring some of the sweets home in a wee box to save for later. The scones felt really fresh and were not dry at all. They were served with a strawberry preserve and clotted cream and I liked the fact that they were a smaller size as I always struggle to finish all the sections of an afternoon tea and scones is one of those things I tend to find are always best fresh and are harder to save for later.

Overall it was just such a fabulous afternoon at the Gleneagles Hotel. I have been wanting to try their afternoon tea for ages and definitely want to come back for another one in the future. I will also be thinking about that lovely champagne and I’m very glad I already have a bottle of the Brut at home, saved for a special occasion (or just a random Tuesday, we’ll see…).
