Eden Mill has taken over the Heads & Tails venue during the day to offer The Guard Bridge whisky and Eden Mill gin masterclasses!
I had the opportunity to try The Guard Bridge Masterclass where we got to try the whisky itself, a welcome cocktail, make our own old fashioned and then finished up with a lovely banana sour which was really good. The tasting is 1 hour and costs £35/pp. There is also the option of the gin equivalent for those who might prefer gin over whisky. Rachel, who was our tasting host, was absolutely brilliant as well and presented the whisky and the cocktails in an informative and fun way whilst also telling us a lot about Eden Mill and the history of the brand. It will be so exciting to see the new distillery once it’s up and running near St Andrews, but it’s also great to see them offer experiences like these in Edinburgh where it’s so easily accessible. For one of the old fashioned we also used a smoked sugar syrup, which had been smoked with old Eden Mill staves which was a fun little detail and Rachel kindly also offered us the Banana Sour recipe so I’ve popped it here below if you fancy trying it out (it might be my new favourite cocktail!)
Banana Sour
50ml The Guard Bridge Blended Scotch Whisky
25ml Monin banana syrup
25ml lemon juice
Foamer (Angostura foamer or egg white)
Shake over ice and serve in a Nick & Nora glass (or whatever you have at home).
If you’re looking for something fun to do in Edinburgh with friends who either love their whisky, gin or cocktails I’d definitely recommend this one – and it’s a nice little preview of what’s hopefully to come from the new distillery which will be opening near St Andrews in a not too distant future.
