Staying at Elite Stadshotellet Eskilstuna

Since I grew up in Eskilstuna I was already aware of Elite Stadshotellet and have even performed here with my dance school when I was younger. But since I was a local I never really took the opportunity to staycation in my own city so now when my boyfriend was working in the city, we needed somewhere to stay for the night and Elite was at the top of the list of places I recommended.

It is located right by the river that runs through the city and has a modern look. The original hotel actually burned down several years ago which was a very dramatic happening in the town but I never really visited the old one so I can’t compare to what it is now. The only problem with the location that I can think of is that it is located on the other side of the centre of the city to the train station. Normally it’s about a 10-15 minute walk but with bags it can be tricky as there’s quite a lot of cobbled streets if you’re not familiar with where to go. We took a taxi from the hotel to the train station as we were continuing to Uppsala and there’s was a handy iPad-esque thing where you could just enter your location, phone number and pick up time to book a taxi. The staff were also so helpful at the hotel and when we needed to drop off our bags a day early it was no problem and they just kept them in a locked baggage room behind the reception.

The Room

We stayed in a Double Room which was pretty standard. The beds were comfortable enough for a good nights sleep, but the experience wasn’t much more than that. I personally always enjoy when a hotel is more of an experience and a nice place to spend some down time, but I wouldn’t say the room was very exciting although perfectly fine if you just need somewhere to sleep.

The Breakfast

Even though I’ve never stayed at Elite Stadshotellet before, I have been several times for their breakfast. Hotel breakfasts is one of my favourite things in life so I love when hotels offer breakfast for external guests as well. It’s available at a cost of 150:- (SEK) and I would always recommend booking in advance in case it’s really busy. I’ve always found the breakfast to be really superb when I’ve gone before with fresh bread and produce, lots of options and some lovely teas and it was still very good. The bread did not feel as fresh as I would’ve preferred and there was a limited amount of option so that get s a little minus from me but the highlight was the waffles that you make yourself in just a few minutes from the ready-made batter. They also have a lovely selection of teas which is a big plus for me!

You enjoy the breakfast in their bar Y-Won which is a lovely open room with Art Deco vibes and in the summer it is also possible to sit outside. I’ve never really been to the bar in the evening but I have visited the interconnecting pub The Bishops Arms that I’ve written more about here below.

Bishops Arms

As someone who works with whisky I never really expect much from the whisky selection when I visit pubs around the world – but I was pleasantly surprised by the Bishops Arms. The pub is interconnecting to Elite Stadshotellet and offer both food and drinks. They are a partner bar of The Scotch Malt Whisky Society and also have a lovely selection of international whiskies so it is definitely worth a visit if you are a whisky drinker. There’s also a good selection of beers and I would recommend trying Möllys Lemonade sour beer!
