Staying at Hotel Gravensteen in Gent

For our first night in Gent we stayed right next to the Gravensteen Castle at Hotel Gravensteen.

It’s a three star hotel, in an excellent located in the Old Town with walking distance to all the sights. The main building where the reception is located is a 19th century patrician house and the hotel consists of two buildings right next to each other. Our room and also the breakfast room was located in the second building and were both fairly simple, but if you’re just looking for somewhere to sleep whilst exploring the city – this could be a great option for you. Especially if you get the balcony room we had!

The Room

Hotel Gravensteen is quite the quirky building, and our room was located at the very top of the second building and had a leaning ceiling and a cute little cupboard in the corner. The room as well as the bathroom were simple but felt clean and renovated. We were lucky enough to have a room with a balcony which had a stunning view towards the river and the nearby buildings. You’ll see our little balcony in one of the photos below – next to the daytime view – tucked in at the top of the building. And if you look extra close, you’ll also see Cody standing there. I always enjoy a balcony – and in October it was still warm enough to sit outside with a tea or coffee whilst admiring the surroundings.

The Breakfast

The breakfast was buffet style and quite simple with pastries, some hot items like scrambled eggs, yoghurt, fruit, teas & coffee as well as fruit juice. We had breakfast our first day here but opted to go out and explore the nearby cafés the second day.
