Return to Wonderland – a City Hunt

This evening we got to head down to the Omni Centre where Escape Hunt is located. We met up with our game host who introduced the evening’s adventure and equipped us with the necessary tools – a picnic basket and an iPad.

You’ve probably heard of the popular concept of escape rooms – and I must admit I absolutely LOVE an escape room. This new experience, called a “City Hunt” is similar but takes place outside around the city instead. The iPad you get given is your guide and little flags on a map send you in the right direction and give you the clues and riddles you need to complete the game.

The task of Return to Wonderland is to find the wonderland characters and the broken mirror pieces that are scattered around Edinburgh before the time runs out. You have 90 minutes and the experience is for a group of 2-6 people of all ages. The journey takes you on about a 2 kilometre walk and should you get stuck then there’s hints to get through the iPad and you can always phone your game host if needed. Our game host Daniel was great and greeted us with an excited energy that gave us a proper boost to get started.

I obviously won’t spoil too much of this experience as the charm of it is to see for yourself and solve the different puzzles. But we had great fun! It would be a good activity perhaps after work with your colleagues, with friends or family as something a bit different.

We almost made it on time, and I would say 90 minutes was a good amount of time to try and solve all the puzzles but still feel the need to hurry up a little bit towards the end. We got stuck on one task towards the start of the experience and the very last one, so our final time was 1 hour and 34 minutes… Maybe you can beat us?

Escape Hunt indoors activities

Escape Hunt also have a variety of Escape Rooms indoors, of the traditional kind, where you get locked inside for an hour and try to escape by solving various puzzles. As they’re located by Boom Battle Bar you can purchase drinks and bring them into the room which I thought was a nice addition. So on a rainy day, you don’t have to run around Edinburgh, you also have the option of doing something fun indoors if preferred!
