Whisky Wednesday at The Queens Arms

PR invite // All thoughts and opinions are, of course, my own.

The Queens Arms is one of those cosy pubs that always seem to have great atmosphere. Tucked away on Frederick Street you’ll find this lovely spot for a pint, some food or maybe a whisky tasting?

The Queens Arms have just started offering their monthly Whisky Wednesday tastings and I had the pleasure of going to the first one which was with Finn Thomson Whisky. I actually attended the launch of the whisky brand – which you can read more about here – so I already know that Finn has some stunning whiskies in his portfolio and it was great to see him do a tasting in Edinburgh. And do keep an eye out on The Queens Arms for their upcoming tastings as they will be bringing in some lovely brands for the tastings.

Finn brought a great line up and my favourites for the evening was the 9 Year Old port cask matured Blair Athol which is such a fruity treat (and well-priced at £60) as well as the 35 Year Old North British which was one of those whiskies that just showcase how lovely old grain whisky can be.

The best mac & cheese in Edinburgh?

Before the tasting we also sat down for a pub dinner (always recommend eating before a whisky tasting, especially when the line up consists of cask strength whiskies!) and I’m so glad we did because I found my new favourite mac & cheese! It consisted of triple cheese macaroni, pulled ham hough, bacon and duck fat crumb and had all the elements of a good mac & cheese – good flavour, slightly salty, crispy bits and juicy pulled ham hough. Usually I get a bit disappointed with mac & cheese, but not this time! Also super filling as the portions are generous. I have to come back asap for another, as I have not stopped thinking about this one as soon as I get hungry…
