Mary Sun Hat by Charm Patterns

This fabric was gifted to me in exchange for a post & review on Minerva.

I’ve been looking for vintage inspired hat patterns for ages so was very happy to see Charm Patterns collaborate with Mary Nishimuta Atelier for the Mary Sun Hat. As I’m currently working on a red gingham dress I wanted to make a hat to match so I can keep most of my powdered 18th century pale complexion by hiding from the sun throughout the summer.

It’s a pretty simple project where you cut out the pieces, interface and then sew bias tape around the edges before making two buttonholes and inserting the ribbon. The bias tape is a bit tricky to get even around the curved edges but I would say that is the most difficult part of the project. At the end you also need a snap button so that you can fasten one part to the other and give the hat its shape.
