Rusacks St Andrews and The Bridge Restaurant

St Andrews is such a lovely little day trip from Edinburgh, but I’ve never before stayed the night so when I had the opportunity to visit Rusacks St Andrews I was thrilled to experience the hotel. I’ve only been to the Marine & Lawn hotel in North Berwick before, which was to try their lovely Afternoon Tea and already know that I love their interior design. At Rusacks St Andrews they’ve recently reopened their restaurant The Bridge which is now Mediterranean style and we also had the opportunity to enjoy a dinner there.

The Hotel

The hotel is very much in a similar style to the other Marine & Lawn hotels I’ve seen. It’s a gorgeous old fashioned style which feels fresh and luxurious. They’ve paid a lot of attention to small details and it really is a lovely place to explore. The hotel is located right by the 18th hole of the St Andrews Old Golf Course so you can’t really be in a better location.

The Room

Our room was located right in-between the old and new building with a stunning view of the 18th hole on the golf course as well as the ocean. I even set an alarm for the sunrise to see if I could manage to capture it, but unfortunately it was a tad too cloudy for it, but a gorgeous sight nonetheless. The room had coffee & tea making facilities – although I really struggled to figure out how to sort out hot water for a tea – so it was nice to sit down with a hot drink and just look out over the course.

The beds were really comfortable and the interior design is so quirky and enjoyable. The bathroom has a shower with products from Floris London, which had a lovely scent.

The Bridge Restaurant

Our dinner in The Bridge was a real highlight of our stay. The menu had a variety of options from pasta, sourdough pizza and options from the grill. We shared foccaccia and a burrata and I had the Casarecce in tomato sauce whilst Cody tried a pizza. We also enjoyed a German Pinot Noir with dinner, which was excellent. And for dessert we opted for ice cream – which was so creamy and tasty! – and a glass of Port which we both shared. The Bridge has such a stunning interior design as well which definitely transports you to the Mediterranean for the meal. I loved the fact you also enjoyed your breakfast here the following morning.

Breakfast in the Bridge

The Breakfast was enjoyed in The Bridge restaurant as well and you ordered off a menu. I cannot recommend THE GRANOLA enough. It’s the best granola I’ve ever had – perfectly crunchy with sweeter elements and creamy yoghurt underneath. Just yum. I can also recommend the pastries. Usually I prefer a buffet style breakfast but lately I found myself enjoying ordering off a menu even more – perhaps this is because this one has been so good.

Afternoon Tea

The following day we wandered around St Andrews after check out and I decided to add on the Afternoon Tea, as we needed some lunch anyways before making the journey back.

The afternoon tea is set up by the second restaurant The Eighteen which has lovely views, similar to those of our hotel room. It was similar in style to what I had at The Marine in North Berwick, starting with a little hot soup and sausage roll, followed by classic sandwiches, pastries and scones. The orange cake and the scones were the highlight for me as well as the tea which was a black mango tea from Canton called Mango Noir. In North Berwick the afternoon tea had a seasonal theme and also some twists to the elements, but this one seemed more traditional with the classic sandwiches for example. I probably prefer the afternoon tea at North Berwick just because everything was so good, but everything was very well made with good flavour here as well.
